Last night I drove into see Jenny. Gloria and Debbie came along. We got there around 8:00 and spent about 2 hours. Let me tell you, it is not true that the city never sleeps! Some parts do! I spent a good 45 minutes looking for a store to pick up a few items for Jenny. I found one up on 2nd and 68th. This is two long blocks from MSK (uphill both ways!)
Jenny looked great! Better than she has looked for a few weeks now. She seemed more relaxed. Her white cell count is expected to increase at a quicker pace. Hopefully this is the case. As a reminder, these are the body’s defense cells which fight off infections. The red cells supply oxygen. (I vaguely remember something about this in school….)
I do think she is getting a little itchy to get out of there and back home. She is allowed outside so she took a walk with her IV unit which she calls “Hazel” has it goes with her everywhere just like our dog! She even bought a nice hot pretzel on the corner of $1.25. Somewhat of a No-no for her condition.
We brought Jenny the mail she has been receiving at home. She has enjoyed all the cards and gifts people have sent. She truly appreciates it! We left there around 10:00 and got home in the vicinity of 11:30.
Unfortunately, this morning when I spoke with Jen, she told me she did not have a good night. She was up half the night and her throat was sore and she just felt awful. Later in the day she was told that her red blood count had dropped a little. I speculate that she will be there at least through Tuesday when she gets her third round of chemo in this cycle. Additionally her hair is starting to fall out in clumps. I am scheduled to have a hair cut tomorrow. So, I guess I have to be true to my word and get “balded”! Admittedly, I am having second thoughts….
On to the last night’s dinner results. Marlene brought over beef stroganoff with brownies and carrot squares for dessert. Outstanding! The competition is heavy. All competitors are truly professionals. The judges are having a tough time deciding!
Thank you all for thinking of Jenny and me.
Thinking of you all. Please give Jen a hug for me and say 'love ya', in case she is not up to reading her e-mail.
